I can’t believe you were involved!

       It’s disappointing to say the least!

       Maybe even comes as a complete shock!

       Yet, some would say that they expected it!

       And you were involved!   

       Okay, maybe you weren’t! But, you could be!

       Scandals seem to be popping up everywhere these days.

       Arnold confesses to affair! Weiner sends explicit photos via text!

       The list goes on!

      Is it still considered “shocking”? Sure it is!

       And you can capitilize on it!

       Yep, use it! Have fun with it!

       Why do you think “trash mags” stay in business?

       They recycle the torrid stories, spin them into a sensational, more believable, story. True or not, these magazines know how to hook you and keep you reading.

       You can use the same spunkiness in your marketing as well.

       Charlie McDermott (a marketing mentor and friend) loves to push the limit on entertainment while getting people hooked on his StandOut TV. In one of his early episodes, you’ll see how he used his affair as a marketing tool. Classic!

Generating leads just got easier!

  Back a few months ago I interviewed John Spangler for my Success Secrets TV show and what grew out of that was a fantastic friendship that incidentally is spawning a brand new service.

         You see, during one of our many brainstorming sessions, we started talking about lead generation. And, how businesses are being bamboozled with so much techno-jargon that they are swindled out of their hard earned dollars chasing after so-called leads.

         Not to pick on any names, but one does come to mind, and if you’ve used their system before, you just might figure the name out. Their whole premise, is charge by the lead! Which, in and by itself, could be a valuable thing. However, when you are being charged for a lead that 5 other companies could be getting too, then it’s value is grossly overstated.

          This was the major complaint we found with most lead generation systems. No exclusivity! You were being charged $13-$20 or more per lead regardless of the quality of the lead. Then, fighting as fast as humanly possible to call that lead, to secure the sale, before your competitor snatched them from you.     

           The lead generation company was making all the money! 

          The other complaint that most contractors had using their flawed system, well, they boiled down to quality of leads. If consumers were just browsing the system, window shopping so-to-speak and filled in the form…BLAM! The contractor just got clipped a fee. The consumer would end up getting hounded by various contractors all drooling over the prospect in hopes of making a sale…only to realize it was a bogus lead.

           So, John and I started coming up with ideas. And then more ideas. After many late night calls, gallons of high-octane java, volumes of note taking and many sleepless days…we did it!

           Well, almost! I’ll get to that!

           We developed “Local Leads R Us“!

           A lead generation service, designed to match consumers with professionals without all the hassles.

           It’s still in beta-testing. We’re still working all the bugs out of the website!

           But here’s the skinny! And, why I know you’ll love it!

           No individual lead fees! No fighting over leads! No competition what so ever!

           It’s not that we don’t want a ton of new clients using this system, oh, we do, trust me! It’s that we are still working out all the kinks and cleaning up the site. It’s still a work in progress.

           So we need 27 anxious entrepreneurs to help us!

           In return, you’ll receive all the benefits of using the system for just $99 down and $99 a month.  

           Yeah, it’s a whopping savings! But, it also helps us out. We need to hammer out all the glitchs, and yes, there are a few left. Hey, I have to be honest. 

           If it was 100% finished and ready to go…you’d better believe I would charging the full amount. By working with 27 brilliant entrepreneurs and getting them to give us feedback on what’s working and what’s not, we can make incremental changes that will make the system complete.

       Capturing clients can be a daunting task, but if you do it right, the return on investment can be huge!

 P.S.   If you peruse the site you’ll notice a few mistakes and I believe somewhere it asks what type of lead you are looking for and when you click it and shows “roofing”, yeah, that gave me a chuckle too! Just disregard that, John was hopped-up on way too much coffee that night and just put something in that field. If you’re a roofer then it’s great, but if not just disregard it. It’ll be changed anyway.

  This is the package I received the other day that I thought was an amazing way to grab my attention and get me to action.

   As you can see, the package wasn’t very big, but when I opened it, there was a surprise element and somewhat cryptic message that got me to explore further.

    Imagine sending your clients one of these…what impact would you have on them?

    I bet they would call and make another sale.

    Well, I did some digging and I found a company that does these “take-out” boxes.

    I’m sure there are others, so do your due diligence and some investigating and I’m sure you will find the perfect “take-out” box to use the next time you want to make an impact and stand out with your customer.

Did you get your Flag Day promotionals out?

Yep, today is Flag Day! Well, it is if you are an American (or should I say a citizen of these good ole United States).

You didn’t, did you?

Ugh, not only is that not patriotic, but it absolutely doesn’t bode well with your marketing abilities.

Every holiday is an opportunity to market to your clientele.

Don’t stop at just holidays!

Special events in your life are a great way to also promote your business.

Like…

“Hey it’s my birthday and I wanted to give you a special gift!”
(Incidentally, look for my special birthday email on Friday 6/18)

“Unlike the groundhog who just saw his shadow, we won’t give you 6 more weeks of wintery blues…infact we celebrating 6 weeks of never before seen super hot pricing!”

“Go bananas! Help us celebrate the new monkey born at the National Zoo!”

Or how about…

Tying your promotion with an upcoming movie or an event.

“Win 2 tickets to the new Karate Kid movie …”

You can even make up a holiday… like the characters on Seinfeld did when they came up with “Festivus”.

Monkey Mail

Frequency has its price!

If you contact your customers on a frequent basis via email you have several dozen options including Constant Contact, I Contact, Infusion Soft and Aweber just to name a few. I prefer Constant Contact myself…but hey that’s my personal preference.

Maybe one name you haven’t heard about yet is Mail Chimp. And not to make this a salesy type email or some sort of “Rob recommends” issue… I will say that Mail Chimp is pulling out the stops and placing a great deal of value on their offering.

You see, what makes Mail Chimp stand out… is it’s pricing.

It might not be better than Constant Contact but it’s pricing is more attractive.

If you have a list of clients under the 500 mark and you email them at tops once a week – then believe it or not … Mail Chimp is (drum roll please)… FREE!

Yeah, I did say FREE!

I was surprised too!

And yes, it has some bells & whistles that some of the not free services don’t even have.

One small caveat, if you’re like me who likes to send out an email at least five times per week, then the pricing of FREE for a limited number of send outs may not be a good value.

Mail Chimp even provides analytics that monitor your emails and lets you know who opened your message, who forwarded your message and who opted out of your database. Plus, they offer autoresponders that completely automate your client management and distribution of messages.

And one last thing… Mail Chimp allows you to incorporate an opt-in button on your website. Don’t have an opt-in button, no worries, you can generate an opt-in button on their website. If you don’t know what an opt-in button is well its a way for people to add their name and email to your list, so you can mail to them.

Regardless if you use Constant Contact, Mail Chimp or the host of other email service providers… always stay in contact with your customer base.

Make a splash!

Splash!

Well, thank goodness this is just a post, because if it was water I would have soaked you.

I really believe that sometimes you need to make a BIG splash just to get noticed.

When I was kid and the favorite pasttime was visiting the local swimming pool, the kids who were labled cool were the ones that dared to be different. They stood out! They got noticed because the weren’t afraid to jump in and make a splash or two.

Then I remembered what my grandfather used to say… if you want to catch fish you have to stand still… don’t even make a ripple in the water.

Well in the business field especially marketing… standing still and causing ripples doesn’t do squat. If my grandfather only knew how much I wanted to take a big rock and throw it in to the water to make a big splash.

We as consumers have become conditioned to the slight ripples…the over 3300 advertising and marketing impressions thrown at us each and every day. And, frankly the only time we take notice is when a business does something crazy or outrageous and makes a BIG splash.

I’ve been asked many times, to share the how’s and why’s of customizing your social media sites.
 
   After careful consideration…I’ve decided to reveal my secrets.
 
   Actually, not too much of a secret…just sort of my way of keeping secret the sites I recommend only to my top paying clients.
 
   So, now I’m going to reveal 2 of these sites to you and it didn’t cost you a dime.
 
   The first site I would highly recommend you take a gander at is… Tweetpages.
 
   Tweetpages allows you to create custom backgrounds for your Twitter, Facebook and YouTube pages. This enables you to have a matching theme across multiple platforms.
 
   You should also check out Widgetbox. The cool thing about Widgetbox is that it allows you to create a way to showcase your social media posts on your website
 
   Both sites offer step by step instructions and videos you can follow.
