FREE Voice!

October 26, 2010 Leave a comment

Google Voice Logo I just had to try it!

I felt like a kid with a shiny new object.

Yeah, I admit, I’m one of those techie junkies!

But this was different.

I really couldn’t hold this product…it was more like an audio/visual thing.

I had heard about it at my monthly Glazer-Kennedy Insiders Circle Chapter Meeting.
(BTW: if you want to ramp up your marketing, learn real world secrets to propel your business past your competition, and discover new & exciting ways to attract clients, you need to join a chapter)

You’re probably wondering why they would talk about a tech product at a marketing meeting, right?

Well let me explain!

This service which, incidentally, is FREE…takes voice calls, voice mail, transcription and email, wraps them all up in a nice little bundle of joy then adds additional features to enhance them.

It’s called Google Voice!

And, although I’m not a big fan of Google, especially the whole Buzz social media service, Voice is a product I see a lot of potential in when it comes to phone calls.

Like I said…the service is FREE!

Well, almost FREE!

Let me explain! All calls made in the USA and Canada are FREE! All international calls are charged a fee, but the rate is dirt cheap.

Here’s what I like…the service comes with FREE phone transcription! You ever get a message and you have to listen to it 15 times to figure out what they said…I know I have! I really can’t stand when I have to rewind the message just to jot down all the particulars…UGH…drives me crazy!

Well, never again…nope!

All messages are transcribed for FREE and emailed to you. Never miss a message again. Plus, they are searchable! So, if you forget when the call took place or what was said…just type in a key word and whamo…up pops the exact call with the message you were looking for…kinda cool right?

You also receive a FREE phone number. You can pick a local number or if you want a number in another state…no problem. How about a vanity name? Yep, you can pick some cool words that might help someone remember you easier and see if they are available. You get one number per Gmail account.

So, if you really wanted to look like a BIG SHOT, and have phone numbers in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Miami, Philadelpia or even Dallas…you can! You just need to have multiple Gmail email accounts.

Another cool thing about Google Voice, is you can have your new Voice number forwarded to your cell phone, land line or any phone in between or all of them at the same time. Never miss a call! Or miss the call and be notified via email the moment the message arrives.

There are lots of additional features that really make this a great product, such as personalized greetings, block and screen callers and conference calls just to name a few…and yes, they are FREE as well.

Imagine, you just created a new ad campaign, and you want an easy way to track it’s success. You could put a special code that customers need to call and mention, which ironically most don’t unless asked, or you can incorporate your new Google Voice number and instantly know how well the ad is doing.

Until next time,

It begins in 10 days!

August 5, 2010 Leave a comment

Starting in 10 days and running for the next 30 I’m going to do what some would consider impossible. I’m going to raise $40,000!

Yeah, it’s a hefty goal!

And, in such a short time period.

Not sure if I should be commended for my efforts or told that I’m borderline insane.

I mean really, what are my chances of succeeding? Before you answer that…

Let me explain why I’m doing this, how you can help and why this WILL succeed!

Every few years and event comes along that stirs the souls, that gets kids involved, that pushes the limits of their beliefs, that strengthens their faith and provides a lifetime of experience. It’s called World Youth Day. And, it’s happening in Madrid Spain in August 2011.

In my church (St. Philips Roman Catholic Church, Millersville Pa), a group of 10 youths and adult chaperones are planning to attend World Youth Day. The cost for meals, flights and hotels is being tagged at around $4,000 per person.

In the last few months, this group of dynamic kids has been trying desperately to raise the necessary funds to go to World Youth Day…it hasn’t been easy. Their fundraising events seem to be hit or miss lately…some making money…others losing money. And sadly at the rate they are going selling baked goods and subs, it would take them several years to reach the goal of $40,000.00.

So, I put the word out!

I contacted marketers from around the world. Who have agreed to donate some really cool stuff to help me entice you to give to this fantastic fundraising endeavor.

Let’s help these kids raise the money!

If just 400 people gave $100 – then it’s done!

It starts with you. Will you give $100?

Can you tell your friends about this and get them to help too?

Will you help me make this a success?

Well, I still have lots to do in the next 10 days to get ready…thanks for allowing me to plant the seed in your head and for sharing my goal with you.

Until next time,

Long vs Short!

Long Copy Sucks! Results are futile when you listen to others who use it..
I DON’T CARE IF IT’S BEEN WORKING FOR 100 YEARS, WE LIVE IN A CHANGING WORLD!

That’s an actual message I received from one of my subscribers…

What the heck? I thought, who is this guy and what’s his deal?

So I responded back…

Sorry to dissapoint!

But I have to disagree!

Yes we live a changing world…but long copy still outsells short copy by far.

Why?

It forces the reader to slowdown from their busy life and concentrate on the copy…it grabs their attention and they end up reading the whole piece. And it creates a reaction!

In your case… You hated it!

And you responded!

But to say it doesn’t work or is not the choice of marketers is merely your humble opinion. Scientific proof from yes you said it of 100 years of study and thousands of marketers using it…proves it works.

That should do it… I won’t be hearing back from him.

And so I was wrong

My lady companion tunes me out when I go on too long.. And when it’s longer than long her question is: does this end next week.. There’s no changing her either.. Sometimes we have to let the horses be horses..

The critics say if you have to duplicate or triplicate your copy in all that length Well, how much results can be expected when intelligence is insulted?

Ugh, okay, somehow I got myself into a debate and I wondered how I was going to get out of it.

So off went another email…

I wasn’t trying to insult your intelligence in anyway, shape or form.

I just know from experience that longer copy does work. I have written, read & responded to 6, 12 even 18 page letters that have generated great returns not only for me, my clients, but also some of the other great marketers that I know.

We could debate this all day long and for every reason I have that it works, you will have your own opinion that it doesn’t.

So yes, let horses be horses!

Based on testing, other marketers validity in their marketing and hundreds if not thousands of pieces I’ve read… I will tell you LONG copy outperforms short copy everytime.

I have used both long and short copy…and to be honest I like writting short copy. But I love the results long copy achieves. Writting long copy takes times, energy and creativity.

I don’t always have enough creativity with all the projects I’m working to give long copy my attention…so short copy ends up working best for me. Yet, when I use long copy the results are far superior to any short piece I’ve created.

If you ever want to learn how to write effective copy in your ads, articles, website or sales letters here are some books I recommend…

Marketing Secrets of the Mail Order Maverick“, by Joe Sugarman
No BS Sales Letter“, By Dan Kennedy
Magic Words That Bring You Riches“, by Ted Nicholas

I’ll leave you with this little piece of advice… “the more you tell, the more you sell!”

Curiosity

March 10, 2010 Leave a comment

Did you read my post yesterday? The one where I talked about Swipe and Deploy?

Well a majority of people who did read it, responded! They had a burning desire to know the link where they could get their own Top Secret black envelope containing some of the world’s greatest marketing.

I received email after email begging me, to send them the link as fast I could. In fact, I received 3 emails from the same person within an hour’s time, wondering why I hadn’t sent the link out yet.

I wrote the post for one reason. Well, maybe two!

You see, my goal was to build up your curiosity…

…then to try to compel you to take action.

Based on the responses… I believe I acheived both.

It’s down right devious of me to use your own curiosity against you isn’t it?

Well, curiosity is one of those human traits that we entrepreneurs need to tap when we market to our customer base.

Can you remember a time you bought something based on curiosity?

Well, I can?

You see, I had just watched a commercial for Red Bull, the stuff that gives you “wings”. Well, I fell for it! My curiosity got me! I just had to try this stuff.

Let’s just say… that first bottle, was my last.

It’s that curiosity that… well, can compel people to open up their wallets, send an email requesting more information, or even call a special consumer hotline to listen to a prerecorded message.

Storytelling!

March 8, 2010 1 comment

I bet you love a great story, don’t you?

I know I do!

I remember as a kid, my parents would tell me stories of long lost relatives, and it intrigued me. I would would fantasize about life so long ago.

I can picture in my mind the motorcycle accident my grandfather was involved in, which claimed the sight of his right eye. I was never there, in fact I wasn’t even born when it occurred… but the stories I’ve been told… I can see it as it really happened.

Or, how my wife’s grandfather would tell the story of how he came to America in the early 1950′s from southern France to Pennsylvania with just fifty dollars in his pocket.

If you ever get to meet my friend Sal, he kind of looks like Emeril. He can hook you in with his stories, his life growing up in New York, and his experiences being a boxing coach…you just don’t want him to stop. It’s riveting.

I even get a “kick” out of my brother-in-law telling me about his karate adventures.

It’s all about storytelling!

I recently did an interview with Joe Sugarman for my “Passions to Profits” audio interview series. If you don’t know who Joe is…well, besides being one of the foremost experts on copywriting, the guy responsible for launching BluBlocker sun glasses and author of many awe inspiring books, he is also a master storyteller.

“Dramatize an offer to make it interesting!”

Joe would weave stories about his experiences into his sales letters, advertising pieces and even his infomercials. Those stories would build drama, curiosity, fear or excitement. They would make you laugh or cry. They would get you involved and make you part of the story. And in the end, they would ask you to do something… buy the product!

Yep, a great storyteller can capture peoples attention and get them to buy from them.

Do you have a story to tell?

I bet you do!

I bet your story, behind how you became an entrepreneur is fascinating.

You should tell it.

Until next time,

Live with passion

P.S. When you listen to my interview with Joe Sugarman, you’ll discover a fascinating story about Batman and how 250,000 plastic cards almost spelled the end of our copywriting hero.

Mentors

February 10, 2010 Leave a comment

I want to share with you a secret…
…okay… not much of a secret… more of a powerful piece of advice.

Have a mentor!

Yep, that’s it…

…sounds simple right…of course it is!

I have hundreds of them!

Well, okay, most don’t even know I am using them as my mentor.

But, hey, I seek their advice every day.

You see I want you to get into the habit of expanding your mindset and allowing the doors of opportunity to open. Having a mentor or mentors will do that precise thing for you.

I’m a firm believer in not having to deal with the learning curve…I just don’t have time to experiment with trial and error…nor failure. I need to keep moving…positively, financially, and spiritually.

So back to the hundreds of mentors…

What is a mentor?
Well, according to most dictionaries – the simplest way to explain it is “a trusted counselor or guide.” Now, most dictionaries go on to say… that a mentor should be older, wiser and more experienced in what you need help in. I say age doesn’t matter.

I have about 5 highly intelligent business oriented people I seek advice from day after day, and about another 100 or so that I can go to at a moment’s notice and get advice from.

What? How can you have 100 people who are available to you on a moment’s notice?

Well, let me explain!

Books! Audio Programs! Videos! … get the picture.

You see books, audio programs and video’s provide in depth advice and nuggets of valuable, bankable information… that when used correctly can propel you to new heights.

My favorites and yes, you can use them as mentors too…include…
Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Timothy Ferris, Dan Kennedy, Steven K. Scott, Joe Sugarman, Joe Vitale, Gary Vaynerchuck, Brian Tracy, Robert G. Allen, Lee Milteer, Bill Glazer, Steve Chandler, Marie Forleo, Ted Nicholas, Dr Lawrence Steinmetz, Pamela Yellen, Bill Philips, Michael Gerber, Dean Graziosi, and the list goes.

Back to the “age doesn’t matter” approach. I’ll be 41 this year and my 12 year old son is my mentor when it comes to video gaming… he knows all the moves and cheats in all the video games he plays. My family priest is younger than me, but I seek his mentorship when it comes to spiritual matters.

Age doesn’t matter. Seek those people out that have the knowledge and insight to help you along.

Until next time,

Live with passion

P.S. When I do an interview with someone, they are my mentor for that hour…I learn from them and get to know them…plus, I develop a friendship with them.
